The Healey Marine brand refresh was requested by David Healey to re-launch the brand and their new line of modern boats. The boats are full of heritage and history but also progressive, modern and stylish. The brand refresh is to reflect this. We were also to take into consideration the link between Austin Healy cars and Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm.

The original Healey Marine logo was created in 1960. Not much is known of it's origin but David wanted to see if we could retain some element of the logo or colour. So I began to experiment with re-imagining this in a modern way. One was using the Healeys Cyder Farm Copperplate text as subtext and a Steven Nobel style scratchboard illustration giving it a handcrafted yet modern feel. I then tried some variant vector style boat illustrations.

But these didn't quite feel modern or stylish enough and David rightly thought the 1960 typeface wouldn't work.

We turned then to the cars, Austin Healey to this day is seen as stylish, sleek and still looks fantastic in modern showrooms despite being over 60 years old. It's aerodynamic lines, well engineered form, pastel/mid-century colour palette very much still in fashion today one could consider timeless and a great foundation for this refresh.

Using the timeless lines and Healey typeface of the original Austin Healey 3000 badge and wings that have been strong throughout the brand and representing speed and the aforementioned well engineered form. I bought the Austin Healey car badge into the modern era and linked it with Healey Marine and Healeys Cyder Farm using their Core Cirus font as subheading and Healeys blue.

The website and accompanying brand items are currently being built up, ready for launch in Spring 2022.
